Thrift Store Assistant Manager (Part-Time)

The Mostly Mutts Market is a boutique-style store, selling high quality new and gently used items for low prices. All net proceeds directly support the lifesaving programs of Mostly Mutts Animal Rescue, a 501(c)(3) animal welfare organization.

MM Market's Assistant Manager consistently delivers strong sales and service results. Offering a superior customer experience is our store’s No. 1 priority. The Assistant Manager will help oversee the sales floor on Market Shopping Days, ensuring that the store is properly staffed, team members are on task, and shelves are clean, organized, and well-stocked. We are counting on the Assistant Manager to work closely with volunteers to keep the business operating smoothly during your shift. The successful candidate will be reliable, confident, and detail-oriented.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but not limited to):

  • Assist customers in all aspects of service and create enhanced shopping experiences
  • Ensure the store's optimal daily operation, including ensuring volunteers and community service workers are assigned to the most urgent tasks and generally running the store per the store's standard operating procedures
  • Assist in recruiting, training, and development of Market volunteers
  • Maintain a professional attitude with sincerity and enthusiasm reflecting MM's commitment to our customers
  • Greet all customers
  • Greet donors and help them with their incoming donations
  • Resolve customer complaints in a fair and impartial matter referring all unsettled disputes to the Store Manager
  • Be knowledgeable of and perform sales support functions related to point-of-sale procedures
  • Adhere to work schedule set by the Store Manager
  • Regular, dependable attendance & punctuality
  • Assist in performing daily administrative/clerical functions of store operations, community service recordkeeping, and cash transactions
  • Maintain general appearance of store and premises according to MMM's Thrift standards
  • Assist the Store Manager with the overall operation of the retail store
  • Open and close the store as necessary
  • Responsible for activities in the absence of the Store Manager; ie, act as the manager on duty in the event that a managerial decision needs to be made relating to pricing, urgent maintenance issues, etc.
  • Training/retraining volunteers on Thrift procedures 
  • Post and maintain volunteer schedule for Shopping Days
  • Perform related duties and fulfill responsibilities as required

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS (with or without reasonable accommodations):

  • This position requires moving and standing for an 8-hour shift
  • Must be able to lift at least 35 lbs
  • Frequently required to reach, stoop, bend, kneel, squat, crouch, and climb ladders


 Must be at least a high school graduate (or equivalent) and possess a valid driver's license

  • Retail Experience
  • Cash handling experience
  • Excellent Customer Service skills
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, and customers
  • Ability to multi-task with attention to details
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Must demonstrate a positive and cooperative attitude toward all personal and professional efforts both in and away from the workplace

This is a part-time, non-exempt (hourly) position, approximately 24-30 hours per week. Typical Schedule: Thursday, Friday and Saturday 9:30am - 5:30pm. Shifts may vary occasionally depending on the needs of the organization and may include evenings and weekdays.

The mission of Mostly Mutts Animal Rescue and Adoption, Inc. is to work closely with animal control officers and other rescue organizations to reduce the number of animals entering into and being euthanized at local shelters.  Mostly Mutts provides housing, health care, training, physical and emotional care to adoptable animals, while we work toward finding them a loving home.  Mostly Mutts is also involved in the community with education and awareness programs primarily in the Metro Atlanta Area
