Hello there! My name’s Blue! I had a home, but my family is moving across country & worked long hours not allowing much time for me. Mostly Mutts is helping me find a new family who will have more time for me & give me a great life! I got to spend some time in the prison/foster training program where I had a great time & learned a lot, too!
• OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I love playing with dogs during my playdates at Mostly Mutts. My previous owner reported that I liked the dogs I met while I was with them & I also did well with the dogs I met in a temporary home I visited. / No kitties, chickens or other small animals, as I have a strong prey drive. / I met a nice 10 year-old girl at Mostly Mutts & liked her. I just ran into her, excited to play. I also liked the ALL the children I’ve met . . . in my previous home, at a tee ball game & at Read to Dogs. I really like the 8 year-old girl in my temp. foster home, but when I first went to live with her, I sometimes pushed on her & used “nibbles” to play. I also got overly excited when her younger friends came over to play, so kids 10+ may be a good fit.
• PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I am a friendly fellow who is looking for a family dedicated to spending time with me engaging in fun activities & good old-fashioned hang out time. I have gone on 4-mile hikes with a volunteer & I was so good riding in the car & passing other dogs & people politely. I also like exploring the stream so I may be a water dog in the making. I do not like living in a shelter environment, it’s stressful for me, so I can get a little loud at times in my room when I’m lonely. I also alert bark at times so best no apartment or condo type home for me. I have been pushing boundaries lately with some of the less experienced volunteers, pushing my body into theirs & not wanting to return from my walks, so I would benefit from a confident leader & experienced dog person. I think some of this may be shelter stress so I hope to be in my forever home soon! My temp. foster says I used this behavior when I first came to live with them, but they helped me channel my energy in positive ways. Other than one time I was too excited to meet new people who visited & I ripped some rug in the basement, my temp. foster said I am trusted to have full run of the house, that I don’t beg for food during meals, that I leave things alone that aren’t mine, that I learned quickly which furniture to stay off & that I listen well when given consistent direction - basically, I’m a really good boy! I think I would benefit from a consistent family unit, with a stay-at-home person & slow, calm introductions to visitors. / Energy level 6-8.
• SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I’m a proud graduate of the Mostly Mutts University training program so I’ve learned the ‘sit’, ‘stay’, ‘down’, ‘come’, ‘drop it’, ‘leave it’ and ‘place’ commands. I also use proper door etiquette & have good leash manners as well as accept nice strangers without jumping. / My former owner reported that I was not crate trained & did not like a crate. At MM, I have been staying in my own little room. I sleep on a dog bed at the foot of my foster’s bed. / My temp. foster family says that my potty manners were good in their home. I only had one stress-related accident when a new family came to visit & I was too excited & was put in the basement. My potter manners were also good in my former home.
• LIKES/DISLIKES: I love my people, being petted, & toys. The play yard at the shelter is fun, so a fenced yard where we can have great play sessions together would be nice! I like going for long walks/hikes & exploring the stream. I like car rides, but I get a little nauseous once in a while. / I don’t like crates & those noisy bathroom hand dryers, vacuums & carpet cleaners. I’m also sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, & training.
• MEDICAL: I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped & neutered. I eat a salmon-based protein dog food (Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Stomach and Skin) for a bit of a sensitive stomach & have a probiotic powder sprinkled on my food. I’ve started an anxiety medication to help me with shelter stress. I don’t think I’ll need it once I’m settled in my new home.
I am looking for a home with a confident leader & loving family! My adoption fee is $299.00, & I’m located in Kennesaw Ga.
