A LITTLE GUY WITH A BIG PERSONALITY:  6 years old / 21 lbs. and needs to lose a few pounds  Mostly Mutts adoption center is open Mon-Sat. 11-4pm.  Some of us are in foster homes so please call 770-272-6888 1st to find out if I’m available to meet during the week.  Hi, I’m Abe – a big guy in a small package! I love belly rubs, laps, snuggling and giving kisses to my people once I know them well! It takes me a little time to get to know/trust new folks, so give me a little time please and let me come to you. I’m an alert guy with the cutest ears that perk up when I hear sounds that I am curious about. I may be a smaller dog, but in my mind, I am bigger than any dog I meet. I’m looking to be your only dog as I don’t like other dogs, and I’ll growl and go after them. I know that’s not the best thing for me to do, but I just can’t seem to stop myself. I haven’t met cats, but their likely not a good fit either. However, I’ll be a great only dog and a devoted companion. I’m a moderate to higher energy guy, so let’s go for some nice walks together! I’m enrolled in the Mostly Mutts University training program and so far, I’ve mastered the ‘sit’, ‘stay’, ‘come’, ‘leave it’, ‘drop it’, and ‘go to place’ commands as well as accepting nice strangers without jumping and waiting at doors before walking in/out on command. In my temp. foster home, I like to perch on the back of the couch and check out the activity on the street. I get excited when I see people or animals out there, and if I make too much of a ruckus my foster mom tells me ‘down’, and I’ll get off the couch and quiet down. When playing with toys, I have been known to growl and play vocally.  So, my MMU training sessions include some work on guarding toys. My trainer has seen a great deal of improvement in this area, and though I still growl a bit when playing with toys it is playful and I have not tried to nip at my trainer or my temp. foster mom over a toy. I will need a strong leader in my new home to reinforce everything I’ve learned in MMU and continue my training. I recently went to the Mostly Mutts Art Show with my MMU trainer and I had a blast! In my temp foster home, I bark when strangers come to the door, but my foster mom appreciates the security alarm. I do need a little time to warm up to new visitors, but if they are patient and let me come to them, I will warm up. I occasionally show some protectiveness of my favorite people, but a strong leader can correct that, ask if you need tips.   My potty manners have been great in both my temp. foster home and at the shelter. In my temp. foster home I will go in my crate on command, and I’m happy to entertain myself with a kong if you need to leave for a little bit (as long as there’s a treat inside, hehe). At the shelter I don’t like folks to approach me/my crate if I’m eating, or to stick fingers in, so just use caution with food and my crate until you know my habits.  I met some kids at the shelter and did not like it at all when they moved around me, so a home with no kids is what I need.  If you are looking for a nice little dog with a big, strong personality and don’t have other pets, I may be a good fit for you!  Energy level: 5-7. I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped, and neutered.
