A DEAR SPECIAL NEEDS GIRL: 8 years old / 37 lbs.

Hi there, my name’s Dorothea! I’m a sweet gal who ended up at animal control after being very neglected for what seems like most of my life. This neglect led to my blindness and painfully infected eyes, but with eye medication they no longer hurt. Whew! I’m also very hard of hearing and heartworm positive, but thankfully Mostly Mutts does not shy away from helping sweet dogs like me find great furever homes, so I am looking forward to becoming someone’s very loved friend.

• OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I liked the male dogs I met at Mostly Mutts, but I haven’t had the opportunity to meet any female dogs yet. If you have a patient dog that won’t mind if I run into them from time to time due to my blindness, let’s meet! / Cats unknown / I met some nice kids ages 10 and up and I did well with them. Best no very young kids that may not understand my blindness and may not keep things picked up, also I don’t want to fall over them, and of course let’s meet.

• PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I am a sweet girl who has been nice to everyone I’ve met. Though blind and very hard of hearing I am affectionate – ready to add lots of love to my new home where I can spend time with my people relaxing and living the good life. I’ll need my family to keep me safe since I can’t see and don’t hear very well / My energy level is low at 1-2, due to my blindness, though I can hear a little bit and respond to louder, high kissy sounds.

• SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I am good at sniffing out and getting comfortable with my surroundings though it will take some time in each room. A nice soft doggie bed is one of the things I like to find, so please have several of these for me. I have good leash manners and do well on my walks with a shorter leash that is held next to you / I’m good in my little room at Mostly Mutts / My potty manners have been good in my foster home on a frequent schedule, so a person home a good bit would be ideal for me. Also, I’ll need you to teach me your potty schedule and location please. I bark when I need to go out.

• LIKES/DISLIKES: I like naps and comfy dog beds, I also like to spend time with my people - being outside in the sunshine and enjoy my walks, and my tail is up and wagging. I am a fan of my food and treats (especially Pup-peroni) – yum. My foster mom plays a fun game with me where she hides treats around the room and I sniff them out! You can help me by holding my bowl for me which I appreciate. I am always ready for some slow, gentle petting, good scratches and cuddling / I do not want to be neglected any longer so I would not be happy if I did not get the love and attention all doggies deserve!

• MEDICAL: I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. I’ll need to stay on an eye drop medication 2/day to help my eyes feel good and to keep infection away (don’t worry, my foster mom says it’s a breeze!). My eyes are somewhat sunken due to all the neglect, but they are feeling so much better! Unfortunately, my previous owner also did not keep me on a monthly heartworm preventative, so I am heartworm positive. Mostly Mutts will cover the cost of my treatment with their vet, so local adoption only, please.

I am looking for a loving family who understands my needs and will give me a great furever home! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.
