Gimli

Gender: Male
Breed: Chihuahua
Secondary Breed: Pug
Status: Adoptable
A SWEET, SOMEWHAT SHY, FELLOW:  5 years old / 15 lbs.

Hi, my name is Gimli – a handsome, wire-haired little fellow who is a cute Chihuahua, Pug, Brussels Griffon mix. I am a calm and friendly small doggie with the cutest underbite.  I was sad and confused when I found myself at Animal Control, but Mostly Mutts has convinced me that I will be loved again, even more and better than before.

• OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  I get along great with the 3 calm dogs in my foster home and I want a dog friend in my new home to pal around with. (see the crate info. below for more details) I’ve also met other dogs on walks that I liked. So, let’s meet / Cats Unknown / A home with older children (ages 15+) may be alright with me.  I met two kids at Mostly Mutts (ages 7 & 11) and did pretty well with the 11-year-old, but the younger one made me uncomfortable.

• PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  I was shy at MM’s but once in my foster home I showed my sweet nature rather quickly.  I am a very calm, quiet little doggie that doesn’t bark, hardly ever.  My foster mom says that is very special in a small doggie like me!     I am very loving and like following my people to be with them.  As I am getting comfortable, I am showing more independence too.  In my foster home I have greeted new people easily and like to have them pet me.  I settled right into my foster home but was a bit cautious just until I learned their house rules. Smart, right? / My energy level is currently 3-5.

• SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  I know the ‘sit’, ‘down’, and ‘stay’ commands, and I walk nicely on my leash and enjoy going for walks.  I take treats nicely and am a quick learner who is eager to please and make you smile! NOTE:  I am also skilled at slipping out of doors, so please use caution as I don’t want to get hurt or lost!  I’ve learned that I shouldn’t bolt out the door when my foster mom says, ‘sit…stay’, and we continue to practice this each day. / I wouldn’t be happy being left crated for long periods of time, but I don’t mind staying in my comfy crate (with a filled kong and nylabone), when my foster family leaves for a while if there’s another dog around to keep me company, like in my foster home, we’re crated next to each other. When I stayed in my crate without another dog around, I was anxious and upset. I didn’t keep my crate clean and I barked a lot, which I hadn’t previously done.   / My potty habits at the shelter and in my foster home have been really good, though I did mark in my foster home a few times.

• LIKES/DISLIKES:  Belly and neck rubs are the greatest!  Toys are ok, but I choose people over toys every time!  I am not a lap dog, but love laying near or next to my people, once I’ve gotten to know them.  I enjoy being outside with my family and it feels wonderful to roll in the grass, when I’m not squirrel chasing / I am afraid of the sound of the overhead garage door. I love car rides and jump right in to say, “let’s go!” I did great on a longer drive to the beach too.

• MEDICAL: I have a grade 3 luxating patella, which the vet says doesn’t require surgical treatment – just a daily Cosequin DM supplement.  Sometimes you may see me skip or hold my leg off the ground which is typical of a luxating patella.  I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered.

I am looking for a loving and patient home where I have time to settle in and be your furry best friend!  My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.
