A BIG HANDSOME FELLOW: 5 Years old / 70 lbs.

Hi I’m Bandit! I was rescued from animal control, and I sure am happy to be here! We believe that I had some head trauma in the past, so the nice folks at Mostly Mutts are working together on how best to help me with that (see below for more info). I’m currently in the prison/foster training program off site and learning a lot! Please inquire at 770-272-6888 to find out when I'm available to meet.

• OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I was attacked by a dog so this makes me nervous around other dogs. I have a submissive nature with other dogs, and although I don’t really want to play, I want to co-exist with them as long as they are calm. / Cats unknown / I’ve not been child tested yet, but since I don’t like people coming over my head, or coming at me quickly around my head, older mature kids such as 15+ would likely be best – so let’s meet if you have kids that age or older.

• PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: The folks in the prison/foster training program say that I’m a sweet and happy dog and that I like all the people I’ve met there! They are aware of the suspected head trauma and know not to come at me quickly around or over my head including leaning over me. They leash me from under my chin with a clip leash to my collar while sitting down and I’ve done well with that. I also have some shaking when I’m excited or uncomfortable and when I lie down, my bottom legs shake a bit (the ones that take my weight). I’m also a deep dreamer when I’m asleep – I sometimes bark, growl, and have those running/dreaming legs. Early on, I did bite a few people, but it is not my intent to bite people, we all think it was a result of head trauma and needing to learn what helped me not feel threatened or overwhelmed. I have made great progress with my trainer and together we have learned what makes me more comfortable, and there have been no bites since. My trainer will be happy to talk to you about this. / My energy level is 4 – 6.

• SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I'm a proud graduate of the Mostly Mutts University training program, so, I've mastered the 'sit', 'stay', 'down', 'come', 'drop it', 'leave it' and 'place' commands. I also use proper door etiquette and have good leash manners as well as accept nice strangers without jumping. I also give my ‘paw’ so we can shake hands. / I’m doing well in my crate at Mostly Mutts and in the prison/foster training program. / My potty manners have been good at Mostly Mutts and in the prison/foster training program.

• LIKES/DISLIKES: I love being brushed and getting neck scratches. I also enjoy spending time with people and other dogs. / I dislike anything going over my head and any fast movements around my head including over the head leashing, so always move slowly with me and leash me from under my chin – sitting down works best. I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training too.

• MEDICAL: I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered. I am trying a medication called Gabapentin to see if it helps me with the shaking and sensitivity to things around my head. We are still working on this, and I may start another medication soon to see if it will also help. Just ask about this as we are still working on what may be best.

I’m looking for a great family that understands and is willing to follow the rules that help me feel secure. And a family that will love and take good care of me using positive reinforcement training methods. My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.
