Gender: Male
Breed: German Shepherd
Secondary Breed: Beagle
Status: Adoptable

AN ACTIVE & FUN-LOVING FELLOW: 4 years old / 50 lbs.

Hi, I'm Chester! Mostly Mutts came for me at animal control & initially thought I had burns on my back. Thank goodness, that was not the case, but rather a very bad case of allergies! Good vet care, allergy medicine & a special food have me feeling great now. I got to participate in the prison foster/training program where I learned a lot!

• OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: Though I love having doggie playdates and going for walks with other dogs, I should not live with dogs due to guarding things I value. My trainer or foster family will be glad to talk to you about this. / No cats as I did try to get the neighbor’s cat in a temp foster home. / Older child please (ages 15+). I met two kids at Mostly Mutts (ages 7 & 10) & wasn't able to control my excitement, but I showed no aggression. Kids shouldn't walk me as I can be a bit of a challenge on my leash.

• PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I'm a super friendly, happy guy that just wants to have a fun time! My whole-body wags to show my love & enthusiasm! I have spurts of high energy, but I also love lounging around inside. I can be a bit mouthy when I play, but I am working on this. I will “talk” sometimes when I’m excited or hungry, but I don’t bark too much. / My energy level is 5-7, so I would be happiest with an active family member who will help me use up my energy on a regular basis.

• SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I participated in the Mostly Mutts University training program and showed how smart I am with the commands I have mastered: ‘sit’, ‘down’, ‘stay’, ‘come’, ‘drop it’, ‘leave it’, ‘go to your place’ & ‘bang bang’. I also use proper door etiquette & will wait for you to tell me it’s ok to go outside. I love friendly strangers, so I greet them enthusiastically and jump but settle down after a few minutes. My one weakness is my leash walking skills. I have a high prey drive and it’s hard for me to focus when outside. I need a gentle leader or harness and a strong leader to follow. I’d be fine not going on walks as long as you promise to play with me a lot! / In my foster home, I like my crate and will go in on command & I’m well-behaved & quiet in my crate (even overnight). / My potty habits have been great at Mostly Mutts & in my foster home.

• LIKES/DISLIKES: I really like to play & hang out with the volunteers & my foster. I love bones, doing zoomies in the yard & squeaky toys. Water is also fun!! A fenced yard where I can run off some energy with you would be great & likely key to me being a well-adjusted & happy guy. I also ride well in the car. When I'm not playing, I love to nap on my comfy doggie bed. / I used to guard things that I wasn’t supposed to have, but my trainer and foster worked with me, and now I can be convinced to give it up. I would not be happy if I did not get the exercise, training, love & attention on which I thrive!

• MEDICAL: I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped & neutered. I'm on a special non-prescription food (kangaroo) which I should stay on as it's helping my skin sensitivity & Apoquel medicine for skin allergies.

I am looking for a family that is a match for my active & fun nature! Adoption fee $299.00. I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.
