A GENTLE GIANT WHO WANTS A LEADER: 4 years old / Approx. 90 lbs. and needs to gain weight

Hi there! My name is Hoover! I came to Mostly Mutts from animal control – skinny, agitated and recovering from surgery to remove an obstruction from eating something not meant for dogs. Oops! I was stressed when left alone but I’m getting better with the help of my trainer and the MM volunteers. I have now entered the prison foster/training program and hope to learn lots of new things and of course let the folks get to know me better too, so stay tuned!

• OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I have met several dogs at MM’s and it appears that I want to be friends, but that can sometimes look like aggression, so I must meet any dog’s that will be in my new family. I met a sweet female dog, and the volunteers say I may even have a girlfriend – lol. I’ll be tested more with other dogs in the prison foster/training program, so stay tuned / Cats unknown, but I am a big boy / I met a couple of nice children recently at Mostly Mutts, and did pretty well with them, though their running made me a bit apprehensive and I was on medication, so we’ll do more kid testing in the near future. I’d say much older kids for now (15+) and we should meet!

• PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I am a gentle giant who is friendly and loving with my people. I can be a bit cautious and will look to my handler to be in charge, or I will worry. Therefore, my owner should be a strong leader – both in mind and physically, as I am a strong guy who will pull you along where I want to go if I am in charge. I am on medication that seems to be helping / My energy level ranges lower to moderate, being 3-4 sometimes and 4-6 at other times.

• SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: As a student in the Mostly Mutts University training program, so far I have mastered the ‘sit’, ‘down’ and ‘come’ commands. I am enjoying MMU now in the prison/foster training program, as I am treat and attention motivated, so let’s have fun with my continued training / I have some separation anxiety and have begun my crate training with an open door for now. I am improving and will update this info. as soon as I know more / I am currently having some accidents on the shelter schedule. Just continue to be consistent with me so I can master my potty skills.

• LIKES/DISLIKES: I LOVE being with my people and am happy to share my affection with them. I like my trainers as they know how to lead me properly which gives me confidence / On my walks, I don’t like noises from cars, and I get startled when they splash through puddles. I love my people very much and don’t like being away from them.

• MEDICAL: I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered. I’m on an anxiety medication for separation anxiety. It’s not clear yet if I’ll need to stay on it.

I am looking for a strong leader who will provide the structure I need to be a happy and relaxed family member! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.
