Jess

Gender: Female
Breed: Terrier
Secondary Breed: Mix
Status: Adoptable
LOOKING FOR A CALM, QUIET HOME:  3 years old / 33 lbs.

Hi there, I’m Jess! I came to Mostly Mutts from animal control & may not have been treated well in the past. Loud noises & quick movements startle me a bit, especially movements over my head & back. I have settled into my foster home & am doing great, but it took me a few days to get comfortable. Maybe due to my past, I need to develop trust with my people, then I am a true love bug, belly rubs & all!

• OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I want to be your only dog as when I met other dogs at MM’s I got nervous & reacted poorly to them. I’m ok walking with other dogs, but I don’t want them in my face. / I was respectful of the shelter kitty / I played fetch with & chilled on the couch with a 15-year-old boy that visited my foster home. We had a lot of fun, so a home with older teens may work for me (ages 15+), let’s meet! No younger children as I don’t like quick/sudden movements.

• PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I am a friendly, sweet, & playful girl, but a bit nervous & defensive in some situations until I trust you. I’ll need your patience when adjusting to my new home. Treats & sweet-talking encourage me. I’m also a very quiet dog which my foster likes, I have not barked once! / My energy level is 4-6.

• SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I am a student in the Mostly Mutts University training program, where I have already impressed my trainer, who says I am extremely smart & love learning! I’m also easy to train & treat motivated. I’ve already mastered the following commands: ‘sit’, ‘down’, ‘come’, ‘stay’, ‘drop-it’, ‘leave it’, meeting friendly strangers without jumping, & proper door etiquette. I put my slip leash on myself - just hold it open & I will put my head right in! Remove my leash from the side please, don’t go over my head, I am scared of hands over my head & may nip until I trust you. I am the master of fetch & will play as long as you do! It makes me very happy! / I do not need a crate & have not used one in my foster home, however, I am crate trained. I have not bothered anything at all, so yay me! / My potty manners are great in my foster home with no accidents.

• LIKES/DISLIKES: I love my Nylabone, antler & Kong. I am a strong chewer, so these sturdy toys are best for me. I readily exchange my toys for another toy or treats. I love to run in the backyard & play fetch with my foster mom. I am also a gem in the car as I love riding around with my human! / Dislikes for me would be fireworks, so please leave me inside when those are going off. I need a calm place until they’re done. Under my foster’s bed worked well for me! I don’t like being hugged or sudden movements & I prefer to calmly curl up beside you!

• MEDICAL: I’ve started a medication for a little anxiety which I may stay on, but it’s also possible that once I’ve settled in my new home, I could come off it in time. I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped & spayed.

I am looking for a calm home where I can continue to learn to trust. I adore my foster family & have accepted guests over the holiday season & was very friendly with them. My adoption fee is $299.00, & I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.
