Ralphie

Gender: Male
Breed: Golden Retriever
Secondary Breed: Mix
Status: Adoptable
A GREAT DOG IN THE MAKING:  6 years old / 72 lbs.

Hi there!  My name’s Ralphie and I’m a big, handsome guy with a lot of love to give!  I came to Mostly Mutts from animal control and was adopted for about 2 months but am back due to some possessiveness and a bite - please read info. below.  I’ve won the hearts of the volunteers, but when I’m in my crate I react poorly – please read the crate info. below too and don’t pass me by.

• OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  No dogs please. I want to be your only dog as I didn’t like the dogs I met at Mostly Mutts. I stared at them and if they engaged with me, I went after them / My former family reported that I did well with the kitty in the home, though I have not met cats at MM’s, (also use caution since I’m possessive of food, treats and toys) so let’s meet / No kids as I startle easily and have bitten a teen who accidentally stepped on me and was animated when I was asleep.  I do like kids and have met quite a few, but I shouldn’t live with them.

• PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  I am a sweet guy, and I love people!  My best situation would be in a home with a very dog savvy family that is also calm, since I startle easily and react strongly when startled.  I’m also possessive of food, treats and toys (even crumbs that fall to the ground).  I bit my former dad over a small piece of food that he went to pick up.  MM’s also thinks that I may have been mistreated or hit in the past as I react when people raise their arms (as if I may be hit).  I especially seem fond of men, but I love women too and will lean into people for some pets and love.  I am generally pretty laid back, but I do get frisky when I see something or someone that I want to be near / My energy level is 4-6.

• SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I’m enrolled in the Mostly Mutts University training program and knew the following commands when I was adopted 2 months ago.  I’ll be retested on them soon.  ‘Sit’, ‘shake’, ‘down’, ‘come’, ‘stay’, ‘leave it’, and ‘go to your place.’ I also use proper door etiquette and accept friendly strangers without jumping. I walk pretty well on my leash but am a strong puller when I want to get to something that catches my eye, so hold on tight!  Polishing my leash manners is on my assignment list / I keep my crate clean at MM’s, but I am crate reactive meaning that when someone approaches my crate, I bark/lunge and do not show the good behavior that have.  Once I’m out of my crate, it’s been all good / I am doing very well with my potty manners on shelter schedule and I also did in my former home.

• LIKES/DISLIKES:  I really like toys though can be very possessive of them, so please don’t try to take them from me.  I love being brushed which is good as I do have thick fur that needs regular brushing.  I like car rides too, so let’s ride / I have listed my dislikes in the above profile, so please read my entire profile.  I do seem to need a little time in new situations to feel at home, so give me that please.

• MEDICAL:  I’m current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered.

I am looking for a dog savvy/calm family to continue my training.  My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.
