A SWEET OLDER FELLOW: 13 years old / 13.5 lbs.

Hi, my name is Verne! I came to Mostly Mutts from animal control – where no doggie should spend his senior years, and I am grateful to be on the journey to my new home. I had/have some medical challenges that are manageable, so see medical below for details.

• OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I get along fine with the female dog in my foster home. The Alpha male dog and I are working things out pretty well, too. He’s a little jealous with me sitting in his mom’s lap and over food. I stand my ground with him, so we are fed in separate rooms now and all is well. I do play a little with the other 2 dogs when we are outside. If you have a dog without an Alpha personality, let’s meet. / Cats unknown / The nice kids in my foster home are age 13+ and know how to handle me gently. I’m sensitive to being startled or handling that I consider too rough, so if you have much older gentle and calmer kids like the one’s in my foster home, let’s meet!

• PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I am a sweet fellow who was initially shy and nervous at the Mostly Mutts shelter, not knowing the routine or all the volunteers, so I was a little unsure and growly at times. Now that I’m in a quiet foster home, I’m much more relaxed and happier! My foster says that I’m a sweet little man and a love. / My energy level is lower at 2-3.

• SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I’m a smarty when it comes to using the ramp to go up and down the stairs. My foster knows that my long back should be protected from stairs and jumping on and off furniture, so she showed me the ramp and I’ve got it down! The leash was new to me when I arrived at Mostly Mutts and it was one of those things I was grumpy about, but there’s no report of that in my foster home. / My crate manners are good once I settle down into it and I sleep through the night. During the day, I spend most of the time on my doggy bed next to my foster mom’s desk and just use my crate if I am unattended. / I've been having some accidents, but my foster is focusing on that and I’m making improvements. I’ve also started using a doggie door!

• LIKES/DISLIKES: I like to get petted by people once I know they are my friends, and chest rubs (not belly) were a favorite when I was residing at the Mostly Mutts facility. In my foster home, I like snuggling on my foster’s lap or on the couch. Treats and food are also a favorite with me and short walks or a little backyard time is nice. / I don’t like wet grass in the morning since I’m a low-rider. I also don’t like to be startled or handled suddenly. Let me see what you’re going to do please. I would not be happy if I did not get the love, attention, and good medical care that all doggies deserve!

• MEDICAL: I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered. I have a grade 5/6 heart murmur and take Enalapril and Vetmedin and will need to stay on those for life. I also came in with a prolapsed penis and have had surgery to fix that. Since I’m older, an over-the-counter joint supplement helps keep my joints feeling better. Please keep me on flea prevention as I have a flea allergy. I had a dental cleaning and some extractions paid for by a grant from The Grey Muzzle Grant Organization!

Now I am looking for a great home with a wonderful family to live my golden years out! My adoption fee is $100.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.
